今日のテーマは、「エコツーリズム」について
商業主義に傾きすぎると、植生に害を与えたりゴミの不法投棄につながり、環境破壊の原因になってしまうと思います。
しかし、参加人数や時期を制限したり、参加するためにガイド同行を義務付けることで生態系への悪影響を最小限にとどめつつ、人々の環境意識を高め、経済効果をもたらすことのできる良い手段ではないかと思います。

With growing attention to environmental protection worldwide, ecotourism has been popular since the late 20th century. Some people argue that ecotourism will lead to environmental degradation, but I agree with the idea that the benefits of ecotourism outweigh its disadvantages for the following three reasons.

Firstly, ecotourism will enhance people’s awareness of environmental protection. Tourism will come to appreciate the beauty of nature through experiences in nature including wildlife observation. Altough there is no reversing the trend toward human invasion into natural habitats, the heightened environmental awareness will surely contribute to nature preservation.

Secondly, ecotourism contributes to the national economy. The tourism industry can expand a customer base, attracting nature lovers from inside and outside the country. For example, Costa Rica has succeeded in promoting the national economy through ecotourism to improve environmental conditions. This case indicates that ecotourism plays an important role in stimulating the economy in developing countries.

Firstly, ecotourism contributes to the revitalization of the local economy and local culture. Ecotourism will stimulate the regional economy, creating new job opportunities in hotels, restaurants, and transportation and enhancing the local people’s standard of living. Ecotourism will also stimulate people’s interest in the local culture and interactions between tourists and local people, thus reinvigorating the local culture.

In conclusion, for the above-mentioned three reasons, enhancement of people’s environmental awareness, contribution to the economy, and revitalization for the local economy and culture, I agree with the idea that the benefits of ecotourism outweigh its disadvantages.
